Creative Defense Systems
Creative Defense Systems is a Filipino martial arts group that teaches students a vast knowledge of different weapons, and how to use them in a combat situation. Flow drills and techniques are taught, with an emphasis on flow in a fluid, non-stop motion to improve reaction, timing, speed, range awareness, and muscle memory.
The three major branches of Filipino martial arts are:
- Arnis, typically from the northern Luzon regions,
- Eskrima, from the central Visayas regions, and
- Kali, from the southern Mindanao regions.
Within these branches dwell a long line of masters, families, systems and history. Most Filipino systems will associate with one of these terms and their respective traditions.
Kali has a Malaysian and Indonesian backgroundÊthat concentrates on blade training,Êsilat, and mano y manoÊempty hand fighting.
The term Eskrima is the Filipino spelling which comes from the Portuguese word "Esgrima," "Fencing". (This includes Stick fighting / Espada y daga / Daga drills / Mano y Mano).
Arnis is thought to derive from the phrase "Arna de Mao," Portuguese for "Harness of Hand." (Stick fighting / Espada y daga /Ê Daga drills / Mano y Mano)
At CDS, we proudly teach the following disciplines:
- Single Stick = "Solo Baston"
- Double Stick = "Double Baston"
- Single Knife = "Daga"
- Double Knife = "Double Daga"
- Long Sword = "Espada"
- Sword and Knife = "Espada y Daga"
- Empty Hand Fighting = "Mano-Mano"
New students purchase two rattan sticks (solid bamboo) and a tshirt upon enrollment.
